How it is made
Open Index shows the figures as House of Commons Library publishes them, for the areas they were published for: constituencies.
Larger areas use the publisher’s own figures, never an average of smaller areas.
Zoom in past constituency level and the map keeps the constituency shapes and says so, rather than inventing detail.

Before you use it
- The majority is the winner's votes minus the second-placed candidate's votes, as the House of Commons Library publishes it. Open Index shows it as a share of valid votes so large and small electorates compare.
- Each constituency's page also gives the majority in votes, with every candidate's result.
- By-elections held since July 2024 had their own results. This layer is the general election only.
Colours on the map
Fixed breaks, held for every period, so colours mean the same over time.
