# Private renting: highest and lowest councils in North East (2021)

Newcastle upon Tyne had the highest share of households renting privately of North East’s 12 councils in 2021, at 22.8%.

South Tyneside had the lowest, at 13.2%. The middle council, Stockton-on-Tees, had 17.0%.
