# Share aged 65 and over: highest and lowest councils in North East (2021)

Northumberland had the highest share of residents aged 65 and over of North East’s 12 councils in 2021, at 25.4%.

Newcastle upon Tyne had the lowest, at 14.8%. The middle council, Sunderland, had 20.5%.
